3 Ways to Find Healing

“How are you so healed after 6 years of being trafficked?” “How are you so normal?” I get these kind of questions often from people in amazement of my “normalcy.”  It may sound like a Christian cliché, but my answer is Jesus.

I have found that 5 minutes in His presence can do more for my mind and heart than 5 years of counseling.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I am not saying there isn’t process involved, because there is. Trafficked or not, all who have gone through trauma know how easy it is to become hardened or bitter.  When I feel the anger or rage, I don’t allow it to stay in my thoughts, I “change the channel” of my thinking and start blessing that person and saying no to the bitterness.

As I let Him wash over me with His presence, and tell me His thoughts, whether through the word or in prayer, and then I have a choice. Do I partner with Him, or stay in my anger, in my bitterness? It is a process that doesn’t always happen overnight, but is a gradual and continual choice.

So, what are my 3 Ways to Find Healing?

1.    Get in the presence of Jesus. Make the time, find it wherever you can, in the car, in the shower, in the morning, or at night. It doesn’t have to look a certain way. Just do what causes you to feel the presence of God, and then stay there for a while.

2.    Realize you have a choice. You are not powerless to your past or your circumstances. You are powerful and can choose what you think and how you think of people, yourself and God.

3.    Take your thoughts captive.  Once you realized you can choose your thoughts, start doing it. Every time a negative, unforgiving thought comes into your mind, shoo it away and replace it with the opposite. Bless that person or situation. Maybe it sounds silly, but it works.

If you want to be restored and healed as if nothing has happened then get at the feet of Jesus and let His presence wash over you and take those thoughts captive.
