This piece was inspired by the book ‘Half the Sky’ that was co-authored by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. ‘Half the Sky’ addresses the oppression of girls and women worldwide, covering some of the main forms that this oppression takes. This poem was a creative response to Half the Sky, and my hopes would be that it would create awareness as to the different faces of oppression that women face globally on a daily basis.
